#HappyPrideMonth

It’s time to strip and don the colors of the rainbow, people. It’s Pride Month!

Every single one of my avid readers already knows that I’m a massive supporter of anything LGBT. I’ve talked about it on previous posts, written literature about it, even put up photos that signify my support for it (links below). If I could, I would wear a shirt that says ‘LGBT rights is human rights’ everywhere I went, but I don’t think my clients would appreciate me walking up a business meeting in a graphic tee.

BYE OUT THERE

But I do wanna celebrate this amazingly colorful month with you guys so I decided that I’m declaring this blogging month as an ‘All Pride Month’. It simply means daily posts (yes, yes it’s a huge responsibility) about anything pride-related – pictures, twitter trends, Youtuber features, movie recommendations, readings lists (paperback and Wattpad) and my usual opinions entries.

I want to make this as interactive as possible, so if there’s anything you want me want me to feature in the coming days, you can comment below or email them to me. Oh, and if you wanna show your support as well, feel free to make my rainbow header yours too.

That’s all for today, guys. Happy Pride Month!

monthly movie bucketlist

The couch potato in me celebrates the metaphorical Netflix, I say metaphorical because it’s a first world perk, where I could be seated on the sofa or laying on my comfy bed  with jammies on and a pepperoni pizza while watching 8 movies of Harry Potter in succession (maybe even Woman in Black to soothe my feels).

Yes, I’m a binge watcher.

Whether you’re just like me or prefer the theater environment where the lights are dim and the screen is massive, most of us are movie buffs especially with the booming culture of film adaptation of books, reboots of well-loved movies like Spiderman and sequels or prequels of fandom hits like Star Wars. To be honest, I wasn’t always adept at finding THE best movies. I had to consciously google reviews and binge watch movie trailers. I’ve always wished there were suggestion blogs where I could go and just pick out what I wanna watch. After working for movie review blogs, I thought hey maybe I can do trailer reviews for my own blog if I ever have one.

So here’s 2015 me, following up on a 2013 promise.

Here are a few trailers of movies either out now, have been out for a few months or are yet to be released that I thought might be good to share. As we have different tastes in movies, I’ve tried to keep this as diverse as possible but you have to forgive the geek in me, it always makes an appearance.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

I don’t wanna reveal too much for the non-comic book readers but this much-awaited installment of the Avengers franchise centers on an artificial intelligence technology originally developed by Tony Stark, Ultron, which turned evil and is now hellbent on destroying our protagonists and the world along with it. You’ll see the return of our favorite heroes like Thor, Captain America, Ironman, the Hulk and Black Widow, whose story btw we’ll get glimpses of on this film.

DUFF

This is the movie adaptaion of Kody Keplinger’s coming-of-age teen fiction book with the same name.

Like most high school set stories, it underlines the ‘LABEL’ culture where jocks and mean girls are hot and worshiped while the nerds are scavenging scraps of a social life at the bottom. This movie though will introduce a new label, DUFF or a designated ugly, fat friend who doesn’t necessarily have to be ugly or fat (not that I believe either adjective should exist in anyone’s vocabulary) but according to high school norms is the least attractive. How superficial right? Welcome to high school!

It chronicles our DUFF’s journey to being un-DUFFed all the while discovering herself and hopefully a new romance.

TRUE STORY

It’s like seeing Jonah Hill grow up right before my eyes, from his usual funny role in 21 Jump Street to the Oscar nominated Wolf of Wall Street to another movie heavy weight that would haunt you with so many questions after seeing a 2 minute trailer. It’s about this toxic relationship between a disgraced journalist, Michael Finkel and an FBI Most Wanted List murderer, Christian Longo.

If the plot isn’t enough to convince you to go see it, go because it’s James Franco and it’s always a thrill seeing him on screen (or maybe that’s just me). Kidding aside, this is one of the movies I’m looking forward to the most. It has my 3 favorites: a good plot, good actors and truth- as it’s based on a real life story.

PITCH PERFECT 2

The Barden Bellas are back for more covers and laughs. It’s a been a few years since they first popularized the Cups Song and a lot of people are still covering it so it’s safe to say that expectations are high especially with Hollywood being extremely supportive of movie musicals these days. If the trailer’s any tell though, this movie’s gonna deliver. With the promise of world competitions and more romance for Jesse and Beca, I’m definitely lining up for this.

THE AGE OF ADALINE

Blake Lively plays Adaline Bowman who has miraculously remained 29 years old for nearly eight decades after an accident that should have been deadly but became magical instead. Although immortality is the gift of a lifetime to most, the story shows its pitfalls like never allowing yourself to get close to anyone lest they discover your secret or watching the people you live for die.

I’ve learned to expect a lot of negativity when it comes to immortality movies especially those premised on mystic logic but I find the plot thrilling enough to recommend to you guys. Give it a chance and tell me what you think.

So that’s it for my movie recommendations. If you go watch any of the movies, tell me how it does on your movie standards. I’d love to hear them.

the MOCKINGJAY lives

I’ve been waiting for this trailer for months and we all know why. Catching Fire was such a hit everyone’s waiting for the next one to soar or flop. If I was to base entirely on the trailer, I’d say the highly-anticipated movie will live up if not be SO MUCH BETTER than it’s predecessors. I swear that a little over a minute worth of video just about killed me so here’s the link and be the judge.

movie suggestions of the month

Heya.

This post is for those who enjoy a good old film just like me and would like to know which new ones to come see next. I’m gonna go over suggestions for movies that piqued my interest as much as I can because I know when a movie marathon ensues, it cannot be stopped.

Here goes.

1. The Normal Heart

So if you’ve been online often or watch a lot of TV, you’ve probably heard of this movie. It’s produced by Brad Pitt, starring Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer and Julia Roberts. (Not a bad looking cast, I know. I mean who doesn’t?) The movie explores the beginning of AIDS in the 1980s, the plight of the gay community to fight for their health, survival and rights, and the sociopolitical landscape the characters struggle to be heard in . It will push you to see the stark contrast and the obvious similarities of their stories from and to the present day.

2. The Maze Runner

This is the movie adaptation of the James Dashner’s world famous dystopian series which I talked about a few entries back. Here’s the link: https://byunanonymous.wordpress.com/2014/05/20/the-maze-runner-trilogy/. It’s one of my absolute favorite series and that says a lot because I hold dystopian novels to such a high regard. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, well everything else that can be crossed, that this becomes a success because it will be just frustrating to have a lackluster movie version of such a great book.

Another plus, especially to all Teen Wolf fans, Dylan O’brien is playing the lead role, Thomas. -winks-

3. Kill Your Darlings

The movie is based off a widely controversial murder in 1944 that threads together the life of three well known writers: Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs.  More than the crime is a story of choices and the consequences that come with it, where structure and form in life and literature isn’t as easy as black and white nor is it pretty as metered poetry.

If you’re a Potterhead and continuously support the amazing roles Daniel Radcliffe continues to play then this is definitely for you. I would say it’s one of his best portrayals to date. The film features the mysterious hottie, Dane Dehaan who is also know for his role in the Amazing Spiderman.

4. If I Stay

This teen romance movie is actually a recommendation from a twitter friend and it’s coming to theaters this 22nd of August. To most of you who know me, you already figured out that I really am not into the cheesy romcoms although I have my moments but trust me the plot of this one is actually pretty interesting. It follows the life of a sheltered girl, played by Chloe Moretz, who meets ‘THE GUY’ but unfortunately suffers a massive accident that forces her to a state of coma. While there, she finds reasons that will lead ultimately to her choice- to stay or go.

That’s it for now my lovelies and I will keep you posted for any more cool trailers and movie recos I chance up on. Oh and by the way, some movies in my reco list are out and available while the others, you have to wait a bit longer.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS MOVIE UPDATE

When I recommended The Fault in Our Stars some months ago, along with a huge side of fangirling over the perfection that is Augustus Waters, I might have mentioned that it was going to be a movie.

Well it’s official release date in most countries, including mine, is June 4th- today!

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to finally see it after months and months of pining and stalking John Green for the latest updates. I’m gonna blog about it again after I see it but for now I just really wanna persuade you guys to come see it. Not only is the storyline amazing, Ansel Elgort playing Gus is a huge plus too.

Tell me guys what you think about it. 🙂

song pick of the week: ALL OF THE STARS by Ed Sheeran

Because I most recently have been exploring my love for music I thought it would be fun to post a song pick every week– most likely the one I’ve been listening to the most. It’d cover any genre but since I listen to a lot of alternative and acoustic music, you’d probably see me post a lot of those and btw, I also follow a lot of Youtubers who maintain music channels and have really good covers so I might share some of those too.

This particular one, All of the Stars by Ed Sheeran, was posted just about a week ago and it has been on repeat since. I think I’ve pissed off my neighbors for playing it a tad too loudly and all the friggin time. That should tell you how much I love it but then again, I AM CRAZY ABOUT ED. Have been since I first heard A Team and has grown exponentially when he sang the ost for one of my favorite books of all time, The Hobbit.

And he’s done it again.

This song is the ost for The Fault in Our Stars, a much anticipated movie starring Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley which is based on John Green’s bestseller of the same name. I think this song is written perfectly for the movie. I could not fault it one bit.

I hope you love it as much as I do.

All Of The Stars Lyrics

by Ed Sheeran

It’s just another night
And I’m staring at the moon
I saw a shooting star
And thought of you
I sang a lullaby
By the waterside and knew
If you were here,
I’d sing to you
You’re on the other side
As the skyline splits in two
I’m miles away from seeing you
I can see the stars
From America
I wonder, do you see them, too?

So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me
And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home

I can hear your heart
On the radio beat
They’re playing ‘Chasing Cars’
And I thought of us
Back to the time,
You were lying next to me
I looked across and fell in love
So I took your hand
Back through lamp lit streets I knew
Everything led back to you
So can you see the stars?
Over Amsterdam
You’re the song my heart is
Beating to

So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me
And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home

And, oh, I know
And oh, I know, oh
I can see the stars
From America

a Harry Potter prequel: The Gathering Storm

I was 8 when I first met him. He had a quaint-shaped scar on his forehead, wears clothes a few sizes too big and sleeps in a cupboard under the stairs. They called him ‘the boy who lived’.

books

My journey with books started with JK Rowling’s Harry Potter (and Tolkien’s Middle Earth series) when I was very, very young. I remember staying up way past my bedtime with nothing but my book, a flashlight and the earnest hope that at 11 I too will get my Hogwarts letter. Although that never came, I was gifted with so much more.

Through Harry, JK opened me to creativity, emboldened me to pursue my dreams no matter how lucrative and encouraged me to keep reading and writing even when very few kids around me shared that passion. Harry taught me that it’s okay I’m different. It’s okay that sometimes people don’t get me, that I make the most unlikely friends, that troubles badger me continuously no matter how hard I try to stay away from them and that I often care too much.

I think I speak for most in the Potterhead fandom when I say that we will never get enough of her and the magical world she has so laboriously created. Harry Potter is a part of me and in his world, I feel at home.

So if at any point you’re just like me, in search for chances to ditch the Muggle movie sphere, I’m inviting you to support, donate, share and/ or watch The Gathering Storm. It’s a fan-made movie, written, acted, shot and financed by very creative and dedicated Potterheads.

As there are no trailers out yet (well, not that I know of), the most that I could tell you is that it chronicles the Marauders and other prominent wizards and witches during their time (most of them in their 6th year at Hogwarts) as they face a world at war with the dark arts and those who practice it. Although this has no ties with Warner Brothers or the original producers of the Harry Potter franchise, expect that it will do the prequel justice  because Potterheads love the story too much to let it suck. Trust me, that’s all the reassurance you’ll need. Plus I’ve seen all their efforts on Tumblr and I have to say I’m very impressed and EXTREMELY EXCITED to see the movie.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned it before but my favorite character in the Harry Potter series is Sirius Black (and you’ll know why in the coming entries) so I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know him more especially before Azkaban and see his interactions with the 3 other Marauders, Prongs, Moony and Wormtail. Then there’s Jily, one of the most loved, as proven by the thousands of fan fictions about it, ships to ever grace any book. I’m sure so many would be squirming to see the red head fall for the trouble maker, finally on screen.

Before I go off into the Harry Potter daydreamland (as you might have noticed), allow me to end this entry by inviting you to visit this site: http://marauders-fanfilm.tumblr.com and their social media sites mentioned on their page and help out in whatever way you can.To all the non-potterheads, we’d be deeply indebted to you and rest assured you won’t regret it. To my fellow Potterheads, you guys know what we’ve got to do. Get the word out and support the cool people who came up with this in the first place.

And lastly, to the cast and crew of The Gathering Storm, thanks for braving the unknown and putting your heads and efforts together to make this happen. We all need some magic back in our lives and your movie might do just that.

MISCHIEF MANAGED.
